The Prudent Buyer HCO utilizes Anthem Blue Cross’s Prudent Buyer PPO network and offers up to 180 days of medical control for employers. Prudent Buyer HCO provides employees with a comprehensive health care delivery system, including patient education. Anthem Blue Cross Nurse Case Managers will provide injured workers with information and coordinate all aspects of medical care, including return to work in a timely and productive manner.

The HCO must meet all state requirements and standards, and be certified by the California Division of Workers’ Compensation.

HCOs must include a comprehensive health care delivery system, including:

	Assignment of primary treating physician
	Consultation and referral
	Inpatient hospital care
	Emergency services, diagnostic facilities, home health services
	Quality assurance and medical case management system
	Return to work coordination
